What’s your business name, and what is your school and year?
Kate Rosenberg, Kat’s Kaps, CAS 2012Where are you from?
Florida

What do you make? When did you start crafting?
Hats, scarfs, knitted things. I started knitting when I was about 15.

Why do you make things? What or who keeps you motivated?
I make things because I want to make things and because people seem to like them. It seems to be one of the few things I am really good at.

How do you find time to craft while being a student?
Luckily, knitting doesn’t require all of my attention so I can knit and watch TV…which I guess is also not something student-y, but knitting/TV watching is how I relax.

If you could make one thing for BU (students, or the campus), what would it be?
I’ve wanted to make BU scarfs that imitate the Harry Potter scarfs, but I’ve never had time.

What are your favorite materials to work with? Do you have a favorite color palette?
I don’t discriminate much. I want to expand on the materials I use but haven’t had the time to yet.

What are your best methods for fighting artist’s/crafter’s block?
Putting it away for a while until the urge reemerges.

What are the top 3 reasons someone shopping at HMBU II should be sure to stop by your table?
-Patterns created only by me
-Warmth (it’s getting cold out! Get a scarf!)
-To be amazed at the excess amount of hats I have made over the years.

What’s your business name, and what is your school and year? Where are you from?I’m from New Jersey, and my craft is painting nails!  I’m a psychology major and in the class of 2014.

What do you make? When did you start crafting?
I create either glue-on, hand designed nails or on-the-spot manicures!  I started doing nails last year because I was always bored, both in my free time and with my nail polish.  I’ve mostly practiced on myself, (using my left hand even) and on my friends who are willing to sit for 20 minutes while I fool around on their nails.

Why do you make things? What or who keeps you motivated?
I make things to share my talent because I’ve been approached by dozens and dozens of people who want me to paint their nails, but unfortunately, we don’t know each other, and there’s no way we could meet up without it being tremendously awkward!  I stay motivated by creating new ways to share my craft, like HMBU, and painting nails at a local children’s hospital.

How do you find time to craft while being a student?
I find time to do both by only doing nails when I’ve gone above and beyond my daily homework assignments!

If you could make one thing for BU (students, or the campus), what would it be?
I would make weatherproof jeans that were flattering so winter weather didn’t mean being either freezing in thin jeans or bulky in 3 pairs of sweatpants.

What are your favorite materials to work with? Do you have a favorite color palette?
I like mainly China Glaze® nail polish

What are your best methods for fighting artist’s/crafter’s block?
My best methods for fighting the artist’s block by challenging myself and letting compliments from others motivate me to do a better and more impressive job next time!

What are the top 3 reasons someone shopping at HMBU II should be sure to stop by your table?

  1. Manicures like mine would cost probably $40 at a normal salon or even more!
  2. I can paint awesome designs that you’ll fall in love with!
  3. I want to be able to finally give the girls of BU incredible nails at a cheap cost!
